Prince Harry faced a setback in his fight for security provisions in the UK, as a judge ruled against his demand for automatic police protection while in the country. However, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle received validation when a court judgment confirmed their claim of being involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase through the streets of New York City last year.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) acknowledged the dangerous behavior of the paparazzi during the chase, with a senior officer stating that two individuals could be arrested for reckless endangerment. The NYPD upgraded their security protocol for visits by Prince Harry and Meghan following the incident last May, citing evidence of reckless driving and persistently dangerous actions by the paparazzi.

Although no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, the NYPD's Chief of Intelligence highlighted the need for heightened security measures for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during future visits to New York. This information was revealed in a letter addressed to the Metropolitan Police in London and presented in court by Prince Harry's lawyer.

The pursuit of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland by a group of aggressive paparazzi was described as "near catastrophic," resulting in multiple near collisions and potential risks to other drivers, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers. The incident prompted NYC Mayor Adams to raise concerns about the safety of high-speed chases, evoking the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997.

Following these developments, the Daily Beast has reached out to Meghan and Harry's office for comment on the matter.
