Prince Harry has lost his legal battle against the U.K. government to have police security when visiting the U.K. with his family. The Duke of Sussex sought to overturn a decision made in February 2020, following his and Meghan Markle's step back from their royal roles. However, a High Court judge upheld the government's decision to downgrade his security, stating it was not irrational or unfair.
Despite offering to cover the costs of security, Prince Harry's bid for automatic protection was rejected. His legal spokesperson stated that Harry is not asking for preferential treatment but for a fair application of security rules. The Duke plans to appeal the decision, emphasizing the need for his family to feel safe in his native country when they visit the U.K.
Since moving to California in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have only brought their children to the U.K. once, in 2022, for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Following the recent court ruling, Harry's father, King Charles, who is receiving cancer treatment, was seen leaving his London home. The appeal process is ongoing, with Prince Harry hoping to obtain justice and equal consideration for security arrangements in the future.
