Primož Roglič of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe encountered a setback during the Tour de France as he crashed for the second day in a row, this time on stage 12. The incident occurred outside the designated safety zone as the race headed into Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

Roglič crossed the finish line 2 minutes and 27 seconds behind the peloton, resulting in a drop from fourth to sixth place in the overall classification. He now trails yellow jersey wearer Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) by 4 minutes and 42 seconds.

The crash unfolded when Alexey Lutsenko of Astana Qazaqstan collided with a low concrete median in the road, causing a chain reaction that involved several riders. Roglič, alongside a group of cyclists in the middle of the peloton, was unable to avoid the collision. Even reigning World Champion Mathieu van der Poel was caught in the crash, leaving Alpecin-Deceuninck without their star lead-out man for Jasper Philipsen.

At the start of the stage, Roglič had been sitting in fourth place overall, trailing Pogačar by a mere 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Despite quickly getting up and receiving assistance from his Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe teammates to rejoin the peloton, Roglič lagged behind by over a minute.

Enrico Gasparotto, the sports director for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, expressed his disappointment, stating, "I haven't spoken with him yet, we'll take stock of the situation and figure out if it's serious or not."

As Roglič's teammates tried to help him close the gap and catch up with the rapidly advancing peloton, Lutsenko was the last rider to regain his footing, receiving assistance from a Tour medical vehicle.

Roglič eventually crossed the finish line in 120th place, 2 minutes and 27 seconds behind stage winner Binam Girmay (Intermarche-Wanty). This result now places Roglič in sixth position in the overall classification, trailing leader Tadej Pogačar by 4 minutes and 42 seconds.

The troubles faced by Roglič add further uncertainty to his chances of securing victory in the Tour de France. His team will assess his condition, and only then will it become clear if these crashes have had a significant impact on his performance.

The Tour de France continues, with riders and teams regrouping and strategizing as they head towards the next stages, hoping to overcome the challenges and setbacks encountered along the way.
