In a recent interview with MSNBC, President Biden addressed several pressing issues, including the Israel-Hamas war, Russian President Putin's aggression, and border security. However, it was his remarks about undocumented immigrants that drew criticism online.

During the interview, Biden apologized for using the term "illegal" to describe Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan national accused of killing Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley. The president acknowledged that he should have used the term "undocumented" instead.

This, however, sparked backlash on social media as some users questioned Biden's statement crediting illegal immigrants for having "built" the United States. In the past, Biden had attributed the country's development to the American middle class.

Journalist Jeff Gremillion took to social media to express his concerns, stating, "In his SOTU speech he said unions and the middle class built this country, now he says 'undocumented' immigrants built the country. Any guess as to who he will say built the country the next time he's speaking to an African-American audience?"

Biden explained his choice of words during the interview, emphasizing that his intention was to treat individuals with dignity and respect. He stated, "Look, they built the country. The reason our economy is growing, we have to control the border and more orderly flow."

This juxtaposition between Biden's remarks garnered further condemnation from online users. One user expressed their dissatisfaction, highlighting their own family history, "Did president @JoeBiden just say the illegal's, I mean undocumented immigrants built this country? The @WhiteHouse needs to explain this.... My great grandparents [were] born in this nation in slavery!"

Former President Trump also criticized Biden's apology during a rally, discussing the incident with Laken Riley's parents. Trump attacked Biden's use of language and lamented how he had apologized for referring to Laken's murderer as an illegal immigrant.

Trump capitalized on this controversy, rallying his supporters with strong language and criticism of Biden's immigration policies. He argued that the previous administration's policies would have prevented the accused individual from being in the country.

Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who had challenged Biden during the State of the Union to say Riley's name, also joined the chorus of criticism. She expressed her disapproval, calling Biden's apology "disgusting" and standing firmly against his use of the term "illegal."

As the debate around immigration and border security continues to be a contentious issue, President Biden finds himself under scrutiny for his choice of words during his recent interview. The aftermath of his remarks and subsequent apology have ignited further discussions and debates among politicians and the public alike.
