ICARO Media Group
According to the latest model data, the D.C. region may experience some fast-moving showers and thunderstorms today, particularly between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. The intensity and chances of storms increase the farther south you go. The forecast has been divided into two zones to provide more accurate information.
Zone A, which covers areas north of D.C., Interstate 66, and Route 50, has the best chance of hit-or-miss showers and storms from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Although there may be less rainfall in this area compared to the south, isolated storms could bring brief periods of hail, strong winds, and dangerous lightning.
In Zone B, which includes areas from D.C., Interstate 66, and Route 50 to the south, the highest chances of hit-or-miss showers and storms are expected between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Here, more showers and storms are anticipated, but some areas may still remain dry. Similar to Zone A, there is a higher possibility of a few storms producing hail, strong winds, and dangerous lightning.
Today's weather is rated 7 out of 10, making it the warmest day of the workweek with highs in the 80s for many. A slightly humid feel may be present, but the heat index is not expected to be noticeable. Despite the warm conditions, there is a possibility of late-day showers and storms.
Moving forward, Tuesday is expected to be rain-free as a front moves southwest of the region. The day will be mainly sunny, with comfortable temperatures reaching around 75 degrees. Clouds may start to increase in the evening.
Wednesday brings the chance of showers and a few thunderstorms, with rain expected in the morning and late afternoon. Exact timing and amounts are still uncertain as the front moves through. Temperatures will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s depending on cloud and shower coverage.
Showers and a couple of storms may continue into Wednesday night, with more clouds than sun on Thursday and Friday. While showers and storms are expected, they are not predicted to be heavy or long-lasting. Highs during these days will reach at least around 70 degrees, with the potential to be warmer if enough sunshine breaks through.
Heading into the weekend, temperatures are expected to cool down to the 60s, with a chance of showers as a front lingers nearby. The forecast may change, so it's advisable to keep an alternative plan in mind, but there is no immediate need to alter weekend plans.
