**Mike Tomlin Praises Justin Fields' Performance Amid Pittsburgh Steelers' Undefeated Start**
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin emphasized on Tuesday that he is not ready to make a conclusive decision about the team's starting quarterback position just yet. However, it’s clear that Justin Fields has significantly contributed to Pittsburgh’s impressive 3-0 start this season.
Field's impact on the field this season has been notable, with Tomlin acknowledging the young quarterback's steady and composed demeanor. "There's no question Justin has played well. And that's exciting for him and for us," Tomlin commented. "I like his steady demeanor. He doesn’t ride the emotional roller coaster when things are going good or bad. Guys can rally around that. He’s steady. He’s a competitor and he likes to compete."
Fields has delivered strong performances, completing 73.3 percent of his passes (55-of-75) for a total of 518 yards, with two touchdowns against one interception. Additionally, he has demonstrated his dual-threat capability by rushing for 90 yards and scoring one touchdown.
Looking ahead, Tomlin wants to see continuous improvement from Fields across all areas of his game. "I want to see him improve in all areas, to be quite honest with you," said Tomlin. "Knowing what those areas of needing improvement are can be difficult when you don't have a shared experience. So a component of me getting to know him is just maintaining that posture, challenging him to improve in all areas."
Despite Field's individual success, Tomlin highlighted that the team as a whole, particularly the offense, needs to start games more effectively, especially on third downs. Although the Steelers finished with seven out of 14 successful attempts against the Chargers last Sunday, they managed only three out of seven in the first half.
As Fields continues to develop and if the offensive unit can address these areas of needed improvement, it appears increasingly likely that he might retain the starter’s role, even when Russell Wilson returns to full health.
