In a welcome relief from the scorching temperatures, Pittsburgh's week-long heat wave has finally come to an end. However, the city is now bracing itself for a new challenge as a cold front moves in, bringing with it the possibility of severe storms and even a tornado, according to forecasters.
Sunday's forecast for Pittsburgh reveals a high temperature of 84 degrees, marking the first day in a week where the mercury is expected to stay below 90 degrees. While the cooler temperatures are a relief, they come at a price as rain storms are expected to hit the region starting around noon and continue throughout the evening, as reported by TribLive news partner, WTAE.
Meteorologist Jill Szwed from WTAE warns that the high humidity from the heatwave may clash with the approaching cold front, potentially creating two waves of storms. If the rain arrives earlier in the day, around noon, the storms are likely to be less severe. However, if the rain holds off until later in the evening, stronger storms are expected to develop. Regardless, the storms are expected to subside by 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to WTAE.
Szwed also cautioned that there is a low risk for tornadoes in the area. As the storms roll through the region, it is important for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Following the storms on Sunday, Pittsburgh can expect even cooler temperatures on Monday. However, the reprieve will be short-lived, as Szwed predicts that hotter temperatures will make a return on Tuesday.
As Pittsburgh continues to weather the changing conditions, it is crucial for residents to stay updated on the latest forecasts and heed any warnings or advisories issued by local authorities.
