The Pittsburgh Pirates have been making waves in the Major League Baseball trade market, acquiring new talents to boost their roster. In a recent move, the Pirates traded for Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jun-Seok Shim and infielder Garret Forrester. De La Cruz, known for his power at the plate, has 18 home runs and 51 RBIs this season in 424 at-bats, making him a valuable addition to the Pirates' lineup. The 27-year-old outfielder brings immediate help to Pittsburgh and comes with three more years of team control.
In addition to De La Cruz, the Pirates also welcomed utility infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to their team. Despite being sidelined due to a left knee sprain since June 30, the 29-year-old has an impressive batting average of .292 this season, along with seven home runs, 32 runs, and 33 RBIs. Pittsburgh acquired Kiner-Falefa from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league player Charles McAdoo.
Tuesday was a busy day for the Pirates as they made several trade moves ahead of the trade deadline. Pittsburgh acquired left-handed pitcher Josh Walker from the New York Mets in exchange for minor league lefty Nicolas Carreno. They also traded pitcher Martin Perez to the San Diego Padres for minor league pitcher Ronaldys Jimenez. On Monday, the Pirates added Colorado Rockies pitcher Jalen Beeks and Boston Red Sox infield prospect Nick Yorke to their roster.
These acquisitions come at a crucial time for the Pirates as they are currently 2 games behind the final National League Wild Card spot, with a record of 54-52. The last time Pittsburgh made the playoffs was in 2015, and with their recent trades, they are looking to make a strong push towards postseason contention.
