In a stunning display of power hitting, the Pittsburgh Pirates overwhelmed the New York Mets with a barrage of home runs, equaling a franchise record of seven homers in a single home game. The Pirates' explosive performance was so remarkable that it even exhausted the stadium's supply of celebratory fireworks.

The Pirates took full advantage of their home field advantage on Friday night, delivering an overwhelming 14-2 victory over the Mets. Notably, this marked the first time since 1947 that the team hit seven home runs in a game at Pittsburgh.

Setting a franchise record, the Pirates achieved another milestone by hitting multiple grand slams in a seven-homer game for the first time in their history. Additionally, this notable feat marked the first time in 28 years that the team accomplished two grand slams in a single game.

Although the Mets initially took a 2-0 lead, the Pirates quickly turned the game around in the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez launched a powerful shot through right center field, marking the first of many Pirates' home runs. Jack Suwinski subsequently tied the game later in the fourth with a timely hit.

The Pirates continued their relentless assault in the fifth inning, with Bryan Reynolds extending the team's home run streak. Reynolds then stepped up to the plate in the seventh, with the bases loaded, and slammed a grand slam, further solidifying the Pirates' dominance.

Sealing their complete demolition of the Mets, the Pirates delivered a six-run eighth inning, expertly finished off by Tellez's grand slam. This extraordinary game made Tellez and Reynolds the first pair of teammates in Major League Baseball (MLB) history to hit multiple home runs and grand slams in the same game, according to the league.

Reflecting on their remarkable offensive performance, Reynolds commented, "It's a great offensive game for us. I think we can build off it and keep it rolling, just keep going strong for the rest of the year."

Not only was the Pirates' lineup explosive, but their rookie pitcher, Paul Skenes, added to the team's dominance on the mound. Skenes allowed a mere two runs on four hits, with a walk and an impressive eight strikeouts. His outstanding performance continued his historic start in the MLB, setting a new league record of seven or more strikeouts in nine of his first ten career games.

Skenes' remarkable pitching abilities were further highlighted by the fact that he has thrown a league-high 74 pitches at speeds exceeding 100mph this season. This astonishing figure is more than double that of the next closest starting pitcher.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton acknowledged the impact Skenes has had on the team, stating, "There's a different atmosphere in the ballpark when he pitches. I do think there's a different buzz in our ballpark, and I think our players enjoy that."

The Pittsburgh Pirates' dominant performance serves as a testament to their offensive firepower and the rising talent of their rookie pitcher. With a historic display of power hitting and exceptional pitching, the Pirates certainly left a lasting impression on both their fans and the league as a whole.
