In the latest controversy involving the royal family, photo editing allegations have once again surfaced, targeting none other than Kate Middleton. E! News reports that Getty Images has raised concerns about a video in which Kate reveals her battle with cancer. The media outlet revealed that an editor's note was added to the clip, stating that it may not adhere to Getty Images' editorial policy, as it was provided by a third-party organization.

The video, filmed by BBC Studios two days prior to its public release on the royal family's social media platforms on March 30, marked the first time that Kate opened up to the public about her ongoing cancer treatment. The Duchess of Cambridge underwent major abdominal surgery in London earlier this year, initially believed to be non-cancerous. However, subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, leading her medical team to recommend preventative chemotherapy.

While no specific details about Getty Images' editorial policy were shared, the company, which supplies images for media outlets worldwide, stated that the editor's note was a standard addition to handout content from third-party organizations. This development comes in the wake of Kate's Mother's Day post being pulled by news agencies over allegations of photo manipulation. The Associated Press and Agence France-Presse removed the image from their coverage, deepening skepticism about the authenticity of images provided by Kensington Palace.

AFP's news director, Phil Chetwynd, expressed concerns about the trustworthiness of pictures distributed by the palace, stating that "trust in handout pictures from the [Kensington] Palace has been compromised." This skepticism follows Kate's public apology on March 11, in which she confessed to occasionally experimenting with photo editing and expressed regret for any confusion caused by a family photograph shared online.

In a previous incident, an editor's note was added to a 2022 photo of the royal family as well, stating that the image had been digitally enhanced at its source. These recurring instances of altered images and editor's notes raise questions about transparency and authenticity within the media coverage of the royal family.

As the controversy surrounding photo editing allegations deepens, the royal family finds itself once again facing scrutiny and skepticism. The impact of these allegations on public perception and trust remains to be seen. The royal family's handling of the situation, along with Getty Images' investigation into their editorial policy, will likely play a crucial role in preserving their reputation moving forward.
