Peacock Orders New Female-led Crime Thriller "M.I.A." from Bill Dubuque

Peacock, the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal, has recently given a straight-to-series order for "M.I.A.", a gripping female-led crime thriller set in South Florida. The series is created by Bill Dubuque, known for co-creating the hit crime drama "Ozark" on Netflix.

"M.I.A." follows the story of Etta Tiger Jonze, whose involvement in the drug trade becomes a family affair. However, tragedy strikes when her family is mercilessly slaughtered before her very eyes. Determined to seek justice for her blood relatives, Etta embarks on a mission to avenge their deaths. Along the way, she also forms her own chosen family, ultimately transforming from a powerless orphan to becoming South Florida's most powerful criminal Queenpin.

This series adds to the growing list of shows that delve into the dark underbelly of South Florida. Some of the recently released titles include MGM+'s "Hotel Cocaine" by Chris Brancato, Netflix's "Griselda" led by Sofia Vergara, as well as the early seasons of "Narcos" focused on the notorious Pablo Escobar. It is worth noting that both "Griselda" and "Narcos" had executive producers Eric Newman, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, bringing their expertise to these crime dramas. It is also noteworthy that Brancato, co-creator of "Narcos", is connected to this new project.

Bill Dubuque, co-creator of the acclaimed series "Ozark", will be spearheading "M.I.A." with Mark Williams. The Netflix show, spanning four seasons, received a total of 45 Emmy nominations and garnered several wins. In addition to its success at the Emmy Awards, "Ozark" was also recognized at the Golden Globes, Writers Guild of America (WGA), Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards.

"M.I.A." will be produced by MRC, with Karen Campbell, known for her work on "Outlander" and "Dexter", serving as the executive producer and showrunner. Stefano Sollima, the talented creator and director of "ZeroZeroZero" and the Italian series "Gomorrah", will be taking the helm as the director and executive producer of this highly anticipated thriller.

With its compelling premise and talented team behind it, "M.I.A." is poised to captivate audiences as it uncovers a world of crime, vengeance, and power struggles in the vibrant setting of South Florida.
