In a thrilling Midsummer Classic on Tuesday night, Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes took the spotlight as the National League's starting pitcher, showcasing his impressive triple-digit skills. Skenes faced four batters in the first inning, delivering a scoreless performance and topping out at an impressive 100.1 mph. His first two opponents, the Guardians' Steven Kwan and the Orioles' Gunnar Henderson, were quickly retired. Skenes then walked the Yankees' Juan Soto, setting the stage for the much-anticipated faceoff between Skenes and the Yankees' Aaron Judge. However, the showdown was short-lived as Judge swung at Skenes' first pitch, resulting in a force out to end the inning.

Although Skenes' appearance was brief, he left a lasting impression. But it wasn't just Skenes who made the Pirates proud during the All-Star Game. In the top of the seventh inning, Pirates slugger Bryan Reynolds had the opportunity to spark a rally for the National League All-Stars. Reynolds launched a single to left field, advancing the Reds' Elly De La Cruz to second base, giving the NL a chance to tie the game. Unfortunately, the rally fell short as the next batter, Colorado's Ryan McMahon, struck out. Reynolds also had another chance to contribute in the top of the ninth but was ultimately struck out on a foul tip, securing a 5-3 victory for the American League.

While all attention was on Skenes' well-deserved start, another Pittsburgh pitcher garnered attention during the event. Bethel Park's Mason Miller took the mound for the American League in the fifth inning, representing the Oakland Athletics. Miller left a lasting impression by striking out the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani with an 89 mph slider. Not stopping there, Miller threw a jaw-dropping fastball that clocked in at 103.6 mph, marking the hardest pitch thrown in an MLB All-Star Game since pitch tracking began in 2008. He concluded his appearance by striking out Trea Turner, tallying two strikeouts in total.

As the MLB All-Star Game excitement subsides, the Pirates now shift their focus to their upcoming three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, currently the best team in the league. The showdown is set to take place at PNC Park, with the first game commencing on Friday at 6:40 p.m. Pittsburgh fans eagerly anticipate witnessing the Pirates' talents against the mighty Phillies, hoping for a triumphant homecoming performance.

The future looks bright for the Pirates with the impressive display of skills by Skenes and Miller in the All-Star Game. As the team returns home, they intend to build on this momentum and challenge the best, hoping to secure a successful series against the Phillies.
