In a surprising turn of events, seasoned NBA guard Patrick Beverley has decided to continue his basketball career overseas rather than accepting offers from the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets. According to Sportal's Christos Tsaltas, both teams attempted to sign Beverley to a veteran minimum contract, hoping to bolster their respective rosters. However, Beverley ultimately opted to sign a deal with Israeli basketball club Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The decision to join Hapoel Tel Aviv came after the team offered Beverley a two-year contract worth $2 million annually. While this falls short of the veteran minimum contract he could have secured in the NBA, Beverley acknowledged that Hapoel Tel Aviv provided him with everything he wanted, making it impossible to refuse.

If Beverley, who is currently 36 years old, decides to retire after his stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv, he will conclude his NBA career having played a total of 666 regular-season games. Throughout his impressive 12-year career in the league, Beverley averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, showcasing his defensive prowess and ability to contribute on both ends of the court.

Known for his tenacious defense and adept facilitation, Beverley's presence could have been a valuable asset for the struggling Detroit Pistons, who have been among the NBA's weakest defensive teams in recent years. Pairing him with rising talents such as Cade Cunningham or Jaden Ivey would have provided a much-needed boost to the team's backcourt.

Beverley began the 2023-24 season with the Philadelphia 76ers before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in February, reuniting with coach Doc Rivers. Last season, he averaged 6.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 41.7% from the field (33.7% from three-point range) in 73 games.

The 6-foot-2 guard initially kicked off his professional basketball journey overseas, playing in Ukraine and Greece before joining the Houston Rockets in the 2012-13 season. Throughout his NBA career, Beverley has also donned the jerseys of the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls.

While the NBA may miss Beverley's intensity and defensive skills on the court, fans overseas can look forward to witnessing his contributions to Hapoel Tel Aviv as he embarks on a new chapter in his basketball career.
