In a heartfelt Instagram post, actress Olivia Munn shared the news of her recent battle with breast cancer. The 43-year-old star, known for her roles in "The Newsroom" and "X-Men: Apocalypse," opened up about her diagnosis and the subsequent surgeries she has undergone, including a double mastectomy.

Munn's journey began when she had a mammogram last year, which led to the discovery of breast cancer. In her post, she expressed gratitude to her OB-GYN for calculating her breast cancer risk assessment score, ultimately saving her life. A genetic test in February 2023 revealed that she tested negative for 90 different cancer genes, including the BRCA gene associated with an increased risk of breast or ovarian cancer.

However, considering factors such as her age, family history of breast cancer, and the delayed age at which she had her first child, Munn's lifetime risk was still calculated at 37%. Due to this score, further examinations, including an MRI, ultrasound, and biopsy, revealed that she had Luminal B cancer in both breasts, a fast-moving and aggressive form of the disease.

Within 30 days of the biopsy, Munn made the courageous decision to undergo a double mastectomy. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted waking up in a hospital bed after the extensive 10-hour surgery was a jarring transition from feeling fine just the day before. Throughout her journey, she kept her diagnosis private but now feels compelled to share her story to provide comfort, inspiration, and support to others facing similar challenges.

Munn emphasized the importance of breast cancer risk assessment scores and urged women to have theirs calculated. The early detection of her cancer allowed her to have options and she hopes the same for any woman who may face this disease one day.

Expressing her gratitude, Munn thanked her loved ones, doctors, and surgeons who supported her throughout her battle. She also expressed appreciation for her partner, comedian John Mulaney, with whom she shares a 2-year-old son, Malcolm.

The actress's social media post received an outpouring of support from fellow Hollywood stars. Actress Jessica Chastain commended Munn for sharing her story, believing that she had saved lives through her openness. Mindy Kaling simply expressed her love, while breast cancer survivor Katie Couric sent love and gratitude to Munn for sharing her experience.

Mulaney, in his comment, thanked Munn for her resilience and fighting spirit, expressing adoration from himself and their young son, Malcolm.

Olivia Munn's brave revelation serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and the strength that can be found in sharing one's journey. Her story is sure to inspire and encourage others in their own battles against breast cancer.
