An Ohio mother, Kristel Candelario, aged 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and child endangerment as part of a plea deal with Cuyahoga County prosecutors. The plea deal led to the dismissal of two murder counts and a felonious assault charge. Candelario, who left her 16-month-old daughter, Jailyn, home alone in a playpen for 10 days last summer while she went on vacation, now faces a life term. The incident occurred in June 2023, when Candelario went on vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico, leaving her daughter unattended. Upon her return, she found the girl not breathing and immediately called 911. Prosecutor Michael O'Malley expressed shock at the mother's actions, stating that it is unimaginable for a parent to leave a child alone without supervision for such an extended period. Sentencing for Candelario is set for March 18, and authorities are determined to seek justice for the tragic outcome of the neglectful act.
