Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, is reportedly set to undergo surgery for a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, a French newspaper reported. The decision could mean Djokovic may miss the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, casting doubt on his chances of adding to his impressive tally of seven Wimbledon trophies.

According to L'Equipe, Djokovic sustained the knee injury during his fourth-round victory at the French Open on Monday. The Serbian player then announced his withdrawal from the tournament on Tuesday and was expected to compete in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. This injury setback comes as a blow to Djokovic's campaign at Roland Garros, where he was the top seed and the defending champion.

The 37-year-old tennis star revealed that he had been battling knee problems for a couple of weeks but managed to cope until he aggravated it early in the second set of his match against Francisco Cerundolo. Despite the injury, Djokovic demonstrated his determination and resilience by securing a hard-fought five-set victory, marking his 370th win in Grand Slam matches. This achievement breaks the tie with Roger Federer to become the player with the most Grand Slam match wins in tennis history.

With Wimbledon scheduled to begin on July 1, Djokovic's potential absence puts his participation in doubt. The tournament holds significant importance for him, having claimed the prestigious title on seven occasions. The Serbian's knee surgery and subsequent recovery will determine whether he can grace the grass courts of Wimbledon this year.

Furthermore, Djokovic's absence from Wimbledon could also impact his chances at the Summer Olympics in Paris, which commences on July 27. The extent of his recovery and the subsequent length of his rehabilitation will likely shape his decision to compete in the Olympics.

At the moment, Djokovic's agent, Mark Madden, has not provided any official statement regarding the reported knee surgery. The tennis world awaits an update from Djokovic's camp to confirm the operation and gain clarity on the timeline for his potential return.

If Djokovic does end up missing Wimbledon, he will be replaced as the world No. 1 by Jannik Sinner when the ATP rankings are updated on Monday. Regardless of the outcome, Novak Djokovic's health and recovery will be closely followed by his fans and the tennis world as they eagerly await any updates on his return to the court.
