In a recent interview on Barstool Sports' "KFC Radio" podcast, comedian Nikki Glaser expressed her disappointment with Ben Affleck's performance at "The Roast of Tom Brady," calling it ill-prepared and self-centered. Glaser, who received praise for her own jokes about Brady, believes that Affleck, 51, didn't put in enough effort and seemed to be "phoning it in."
Glaser revealed that she hasn't watched the Netflix special because she dislikes watching people bomb. She speculated that Affleck, a famous actor, might have considered the roast beneath him and treated it as a mere favor. According to Glaser, he lacked preparation and appeared disinterested during his set.
The stand-up comic explained that Affleck likely had to pitch joke ideas to a group of writers and settled on the angle of being "mad about tweets." However, Glaser and podcast host Kevin Clancy agreed that the choice was self-centered, focusing more on Affleck's hatred of internet trolls rather than the roast's central figure, Tom Brady.
Glaser pointed out missed opportunities, stating that there were jokes that could have filled up the entire set and been amazing. However, she speculated that either Affleck didn't have enough communication with the writers, didn't practice sufficiently, or simply chose a flawed premise and had to stick with it throughout. Glaser added that since it didn't work initially, it was unlikely to improve later.
Affleck's appearance at the live show on May 5 surprised the audience but fell flat. He spoke awkwardly about his own experience with online haters rather than focusing on Brady. His roast set was considered one of the worst of the night, and he also faced criticism for his unrecognizable appearance, sparking rumors of plastic surgery.
Meanwhile, Glaser has been enjoying the spotlight since stealing the show with her witty jokes about Brady's 2022 divorce from Gisele Bündchen and his cryptocurrency blunder, where he lost millions of dollars.
As the comedy community reflects on "The Roast of Tom Brady," Glaser's critique of Affleck's lackluster performance has sparked conversations about the importance of preparation and commitment in delivering a memorable roast set.
