As part of the trade deal, the Rangers will be sending a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft to the Penguins.

Reilly Smith, a 33-year-old player hailing from Mimico, Ontario, had an impressive season with the Penguins in 2023-24. Throughout the campaign, he showcased his skills by scoring 13 goals and contributing 27 assists, accumulating a total of 40 points in 76 games. Smith achieved several personal milestones during the season, including reaching his 300th career assist, tallying his 500th career point, and playing in his 800th career game.

Having played for multiple teams over his NHL career, including the Penguins, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights, Smith has consistently displayed his offensive capabilities. In his 13 seasons, he has recorded 513 points (213G-300A) in 840 regular-season games. Smith has impressively scored 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive seasons, reached the 20-goal mark five times, and achieved 50-point seasons on six occasions. His prowess in penalty killing is also noteworthy, as his 13 shorthanded goals since the 2016-17 season place him tied for sixth in the NHL in this category.

Smith has also made his mark in playoff hockey, having been part of the Vegas Golden Knights' Stanley Cup victory in 2023. In his career playoff games thus far, he has notched 26 goals and 53 assists, accumulating a total of 79 points over 106 games.

Originally selected by the Dallas Stars in the third round, 69th overall, of the 2009 NHL Draft, Smith has proven himself as a reliable and experienced player in the league.
