3 Million in Damages to E. Jean Carroll

A New York judge overseeing E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit against former President Donald Trump has rejected Trump's request to postpone paying over $80 million in damages to Carroll. The court ruling stated that Trump was ordered to pay Carroll a total of $83.3 million, including $65 million in punitive damages and $18.3 million in compensatory damages, as determined by a civil jury in January.

This significant sum forms just a portion of the financial obligations Trump faces, as he has been ordered to pay over $450 million in various cases in recent months. In a separate ruling, Trump and his co-defendants were directed to pay $364 million for fraudulently misrepresenting the value of assets in financial statements. It remains uncertain how Trump intends to settle these debts, with options including tapping into his $400 million in liquid assets, leveraging his 27 mortgage-free properties, or selling assets.

Carroll initially accused Trump of raping her in a store dressing room during the 1990s, to which Trump responded by denying the encounter and stating she was "not his type." Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit in 2019, alleging Trump's comments caused her emotional distress. Despite Trump's claims of appealing the verdict, Carroll has hinted at potential further legal action if he continues to defame her on social media.

In a separate lawsuit in 2022, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse against Carroll and ordered him to pay $5 million in damages. While the jury did not find Trump guilty of rape in this case, the legal battles between Carroll and Trump continue to unfold in the courts.
