**Jets Clean House Amid Disappointing Season**

The New York Jets have made substantial changes following a disappointing start to the 2024 season, which began with high hopes of a Super Bowl run. Both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas have been dismissed after a series of poor performances left the team with a 3-8 record.

Douglas, who had been with the Jets since the Adam Gase era, has been let go just weeks before the conclusion of a turbulent season. This move comes after the team suffered seven defeats in their last eight games, signaling the imminent end of Douglas' tenure.

Though it’s uncommon for a general manager to be fired mid-season, the Jets decided to part ways with Douglas to start preparations for the future. With rumors suggesting that team owner Woody Johnson might take up an ambassador role in the upcoming presidential administration, efforts to install a new GM sooner rather than later seems prudent.

Under Douglas' management, the Jets managed to draft promising talents such as Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall. Additionally, strategic trades and free-agent signings brought in key players like Quincy Williams, Davante Adams, D.J. Reed, and John Simpson. Despite these efforts, Douglas' tenure yielded a disappointing 30-64 record, with the team never winning more than seven games in a season.

A major blemish on Douglas’ record includes the drafting of Zach Wilson as the No. 2 overall pick, which many now consider a misstep. Other draft choices like Mekhi Becton, Denzel Mims, and Malachi Corley have also failed to meet expectations, contributing to the team’s struggles.

While Douglas did address the offensive line issues by 2024, the season’s poor start confirmed it was too late to change the team’s fortunes. With another rebuild on the horizon, the Jets look set to seek a fresh start with new leadership and potentially a new quarterback in 2025.
