**New York Jets Fire General Manager Joe Douglas Amid Season Turmoil**
The New York Jets' season of significant changes saw another major shift on Tuesday with the dismissal of general manager Joe Douglas. This follows a tumultuous period that included the firing of head coach Robert Saleh on October 8. The team, presently 3-8, has struggled under the interim leadership of Jeff Ulbrich, managing only one victory out of six games.
Douglas, who became the GM in June 2019 with a six-year contract, oversaw a period where the Jets posted a 30-64 record and failed to make a single playoff appearance. This continued the team's prolonged absence from the postseason, which stretches back to 2010.
Team owner Woody Johnson announced the decision, expressing gratitude for Douglas's efforts during his tenure. "I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family well," Johnson said. The search for a permanent replacement will commence immediately, he added.
Phil Savage, who will take over the GM duties on an interim basis, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Savage, 59, had previously served as the senior vice president and general manager of the Cleveland Browns from 2005 to 2008, and is in his sixth season with the Jets as a senior adviser. His extensive background includes roles in player personnel for the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, as well as his work as the GM of the former Arizona Hotshots in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football in 2019.
With these sweeping changes, the Jets hope to find a new direction and turn around their challenging season.
