### New York Jets Grant Haason Reddick Permission to Seek Trade

In a surprising turn of events, the New York Jets have authorized pass rusher Haason Reddick to pursue a trade, as confirmed by owner Woody Johnson during the NFL owners meetings in Atlanta. This decision marks a shift from the team's previous stance when they had denied Reddick’s initial trade request made on August 12.

Reddick's new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had a meeting with Jets general manager Joe Douglas before their game against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. Rosenhaus characterized the discussion as "healthy dialogue," expressing a preference for Reddick to remain with the Jets. Early Tuesday, The Athletic broke the news that Reddick had been given permission to explore opportunities with other teams. Sources indicate the Jets hope this move will reignite Reddick's enthusiasm to play for them.

Woody Johnson, who recently urged Reddick to report to the Jets, appeared optimistic about the potential resolution. "He knows what he's doing," Johnson said of Rosenhaus. "If anyone can get Haason out of whatever it is and get him playing, I think it would be better for the young player."

Reddick, who was dropped by his former agency CAA last week, enlisted Rosenhaus' help on Monday. Acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles on March 29, Reddick is in the final year of his contract and is seeking an extension that aligns with the salaries of top-tier edge rushers. However, the Jets claimed he initially agreed to play under his existing contract at the time of the trade.

Having missed all team activities since the spring, Reddick has lost $4.8 million in game checks and accrued an additional $5 million in fines. If he remains absent through Week 13, he'll forfeit credit for the season, and his contract will be extended to 2025, keeping him tethered to the Jets.

Finding a new team for Reddick could be challenging, as he is still owed $9.5 million for the rest of the season, a figure that is not guaranteed. He recently turned down a one-year proposal from the Jets which would have increased his base pay above $14.25 million. However, there's a significant demand for skilled edge rushers, and Reddick’s track record of 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons underscores his value. The Jets had high hopes for Reddick when they traded a conditional 2026 third-round pick for him, believing he would be the last piece needed for their championship-caliber defense. In his introductory press conference on April 1, Reddick expressed happiness about joining the team.
