**Jets Fire Head Coach Robert Saleh, Appoint Jeff Ulbrich as Interim**

In a significant shake-up, the New York Jets have decided to part ways with head coach Robert Saleh. The announcement came from team owner Woody Johnson shortly after Saleh was informed around 10 a.m. ET, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has been appointed as the interim head coach.

Robert Saleh arrived with high expectations when he took over from Adam Gase in 2021. Known for his exceptional stint as the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, Saleh was one of the hottest head coaching prospects at the time. The Jets hoped Saleh could turn their fortunes around, especially with the No. 2 overall draft pick they had in hand.

With that pick, the Jets selected quarterback Zach Wilson, a move that hasn't paid off. Wilson's performance has been underwhelming, and while it's tough to ascertain how much of the decision to draft him was on Saleh, he certainly had to live with the fallout.

Things seemed to be looking up when the Jets secured veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the 2023 season. At 39 years old, Rodgers was still seen as a game-changer, but fate had other plans. Rodgers tore his Achilles just four plays into his debut game, thrusting Saleh back into the difficult position of relying on Wilson.

Saleh's tenure, which spanned 56 games, saw the Jets compile a record of 20-36. Despite the setbacks, including the significant injury to Rodgers and the underperformance of Wilson, Saleh tried to make the most of his time at the helm. His inability to achieve a winning season ultimately led to his dismissal after the Jets' 2-3 start to the 2024 season.

The decision to cut ties with Saleh leaves many wondering what could have been if circumstances had been different. The Jets' challenging situation with their quarterbacks certainly played a role, but the franchise felt it was time to move in a new direction. For now, the focus shifts to interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich and the future of the team.
