6 Million, Lower Than Predecessor

In a recent development, the University of Nebraska has named Troy Dannen as its new athletic director, signing him to a six-year contract. According to a copy of the offer letter obtained by KETV NewsWatch 7, Dannen will earn $1.6 million in his first year, which is $100,000 less than his predecessor Trev Alberts was set to earn.

Dannen's appointment was announced on Wednesday morning, and the deal includes a $100,000 annual raise through March 2030. Additionally, stay bonuses will start from March 31, 2027, to incentivize his continued commitment to the university.

The offer letter also revealed that Dannen will receive a $1 million signing bonus, along with the university covering any damages owed to his previous employer, the University of Washington. This is in accordance with his Washington contract, which entailed a $1 million annual salary and a $1.5 million buyout. Additionally, Dannen is set to receive a $275,000 relocation bonus owed to him by the University of Washington.

Expressing his excitement, Dannen stated, "Joining the Nebraska family is truly an honor. My family and I are humbled by the opportunity to be part of such a proud athletics program, institution, community, and state. Growing up in Iowa, I watched a lot of Nebraska football on Saturdays with my family."

The offer letter also takes into account the possibility of Dannen resigning before the end of his contract. If he chooses to leave before March 31, 2025, a buyout starting at $12.2 million will be applicable.

Dannen's move to Nebraska comes after a short six-month stint at the University of Washington. Prior to that, he served as the head of Tulane University's athletic department for approximately eight years.

With Dannen on board, the University of Nebraska aims to make strategic strides in its athletic department. The new athletic director's experience and commitment to excellence in sports administration make him an ideal fit for the university's proud athletics program, and fans eagerly anticipate the positive impact his leadership will bring in the coming years.
