### NBCUniversal's New Opt-Out Option for Targeted Advertising
NBCUniversal is offering residents in specific states the ability to opt-out of selling or sharing their personal information for targeted online advertising. This decision, aimed at providing a more personalized online experience, involves combining personal data with information from various business partners. According to NBCUniversal's Privacy Policy, this activity may fall under "selling" or "sharing/processing" of personal information for targeted ads as defined by certain state laws.
Individuals residing in the states specified under the 'Your Rights' section of the Privacy Policy can choose to opt-out. To do so, they need to adjust a toggle button on the website or app they are using, ensuring it turns grey, and then click “Confirm My Choice.” It’s important to note that this choice is browser and device-specific, meaning users must repeat the process on each device and browser they use.
For individuals outside the mentioned states, toggling the button off will not change the way their data is processed for targeted advertising. Even if they opt out, they will continue to see ads, but these ads may be less relevant as they will only be based on NBCUniversal's first-party information.
Additionally, users need to manage their preferences on each site, app, and browser they use. If cookies are cleared, the preferences must be set again. Users can also change their geolocation permissions within their mobile device settings. To opt out of the use of their email and related personal information for targeted advertising, users are asked to complete an Opt-Out Form.
For more detailed information, NBCUniversal directs users to refer to their Cookie Notice found within the Privacy Policy in the menu settings.
