Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz has made a significant move to bolster the team's offense, announcing today that they have acquired forward Ozzy Wiesblatt from the San Jose Sharks. In exchange, the Predators sent forward Egor Afanasyev to the Sharks.
Wiesblatt, a 22-year-old rising star, had an impressive season in the AHL. He ended the 2023-24 season on loan with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he notched six points in 16 regular-season appearances. During the Admirals' playoff run, Wiesblatt contributed nine points in 15 games, including a five-game point streak.
Originally drafted by San Jose in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Wiesblatt has already showcased his talent on the professional stage. In 101 career AHL games, he has recorded 35 points, with a career-high of 15 points during the 2022-23 season.
Before turning pro, Wiesblatt spent five seasons with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders, where he played a crucial role in leading the team to a league championship in 2018-19. Over his WHL career, he tallied an impressive 179 points in 195 games. Wiesblatt also had the honor of representing Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he won a silver medal.
Nashville Predators fans can expect to see Wiesblatt bring his scoring prowess and dynamic playmaking to the team's offense. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 183 pounds, his speed and skill make him a valuable addition to the Predators' forward lineup.
The trade between Nashville and San Jose signifies both teams' commitment to their respective roster building strategies as they look to strengthen their chances in the upcoming NHL season. Predators fans eagerly await the opportunity to see Wiesblatt in action and witness his impact on the ice.
