In a tragic incident on Saturday, a mountain lion attack in a remote area of Northern California resulted in the death of one person and left another injured. The victims, an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old, were antler shed hunting in Georgetown, California, when they were viciously attacked by the mountain lion, according to officials from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

The younger brother made a frantic call to 911 at 1:13 pm, reporting that he had been separated from his older brother during the assault. Promptly responding to the distress call, deputies immediately began a search in the area. At 1:46 pm, they located the mountain lion hiding near the older brother. In an attempt to scare off the animal, shots were fired.

Tragically, by the time the deputies reached the 21-year-old victim, he had succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The 18-year-old suffered severe facial injuries and was swiftly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed by authorities.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has dispatched wardens to locate the mountain lion responsible for the attack. Mountain lion attacks on humans are rare occurrences in California, with only 13 reported since 2004. Unfortunately, this incident marks the second fatal attack during that period.

The community of Georgetown and the surrounding areas are now grappling with shock and grief as they come to terms with this tragic incident. Wildlife authorities continue their search for the mountain lion, as they work to ensure the safety of residents in the area.

As investigations unfold, local authorities are urging caution to residents, advising them to remain vigilant while spending time in remote areas where mountain lions may be present. In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the importance of respecting and understanding wildlife and their habitats is being emphasized by the authorities.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims' families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
