In a recent development, new details have emerged surrounding the disappearance of 3-year-old Elijah Vue in Wisconsin. The child's mother, Katrina Baur, is now facing additional charges in the case, while the search for the young boy continues without any luck.
Elijah went missing on February 20 from a residence in Two Rivers, where Baur had reportedly sent him to stay with her boyfriend in an attempt to "teach him to become a man," according to prosecutors. Despite extensive efforts by the police and local residents over the past two weeks, no trace of Elijah has been found, leaving authorities and the community deeply concerned.
During a court hearing on Thursday, prosecutors revealed new evidence suggesting that Baur had left the 3-year-old unattended for at least an hour on February 16, while she and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, traveled to various locations in Manitowoc. Furthermore, prosecutors also stated that Baur had left a 6-year-old child alone in a vehicle for about an hour on February 14, in freezing temperatures without the vehicle running.
Ann Larson, Baur's defense attorney, acknowledged the emotional distress surrounding the case but emphasized that her client had been deeply worried about her son's whereabouts. Baur, a resident of the Wisconsin Dells, was initially charged with one felony count of party-to-a-crime child neglect and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer. She is currently being held on a $15,000 cash bond.
However, during the hearing, Manitowoc County prosecutors amended the felony charge to a more severe charge of party-to-a-crime chronic child neglect, and also filed an additional misdemeanor charge of neglecting a child against Baur. In light of the new charges, Baur's request for a bond reduction was denied. Her preliminary hearing, along with Vang's, has been rescheduled for March 14. Vang, a resident of Two Rivers, was charged last month with one felony count of party-to-a-crime child neglect and is being held on a $20,000 cash bond.
As the investigation continues, Baur told the police that she had left Elijah with Vang on February 12, with the intention of picking him up on February 23. However, Vang reported the child missing on February 20, claiming that he had taken a nap with the toddler and woke up three hours later to find him gone.
The community remains on high alert, and the search for Elijah Vue persists. The reward for any information leading to the boy's whereabouts has now reached $25,000. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work tirelessly to bring Elijah home safely.
