In a thrilling matchup, Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard led his team to a 70-60 victory over LSU in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The ninth-seeded Bulldogs, determined to break a four-game losing streak, put up a valiant effort to secure their spot in the quarterfinals. They will now face top seed and No. 5-ranked Tennessee in Friday's highly anticipated matchup, after defeating them earlier in the season.

Hubbard's performance was instrumental in turning the game around for Mississippi State. Despite a slightly off shooting night, Hubbard managed to score 14 out of his 24 points in the second half, helping his team pull away from LSU when it mattered most. He was also incredibly efficient from the free-throw line, knocking down 9 of his 10 attempts.

Contributing to the Bulldogs' victory were Dashawn Davis with 12 points, Tolu Smith with 13 rebounds, and D.J. Jeffries with 11 rebounds. Mississippi State dominated the boards in the second half, outrebounding LSU 24-12, effectively reversing the first-half totals.

The game began with both teams evenly matched, ending in a tie midway through the first half. However, LSU gained momentum and went into halftime with a seven-point lead of 29-22. Mississippi State struggled with their shooting, managing only a 29% field goal percentage and making just 1 of their 10 attempts from beyond the arc.

But the Bulldogs refused to back down. In an impressive comeback effort, they outscored LSU 12-5 to tie the game, eventually taking the lead for good with 12 minutes remaining on two crucial free throws by Hubbard. They extended their lead to a nine-point advantage after a three-pointer by Shakeel Moore with eight minutes left.

Despite a late push by LSU's Trae Hannibal, who scored 18 points, Mississippi State's Hubbard had an answer for every challenge. He hit a pair of three-pointers and added another basket to help secure the victory for his team. With just one minute left in the game, the Bulldogs held a comfortable 10-point lead.

Mississippi State's impressive second-half performance saw them shoot an impressive 51%, outscoring LSU by 17 points. The Bulldogs showed resilience and determination in turning the game around and securing their spot in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.

With their sights set on another upset, Mississippi State now prepares to face Tennessee, ready to build on their previous victory over the No. 5-ranked team. Basketball fans can expect an exciting showdown in the upcoming quarterfinal matchup between these two formidable SEC opponents.
