Haskell Indian Nations University Student Reported Missing in Connection with Domestic Violence Incident
Lawrence, Kansas - A Haskell Indian Nations University student, Cole Brings Plenty, has been reported missing by his family. Authorities are asking the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. Brings Plenty, a 27-year-old media student and actor, was last seen and heard from early Sunday, according to his family.
Brings Plenty's white 2005 Ford Explorer, with the Kansas license plate 368PXB and chipping paint, was spotted leaving Lawrence heading southbound on U.S. Highway 59. Lawrence Police suspect Brings Plenty in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident, according to a news release issued Tuesday.
Fearing for their son's safety, Brings Plenty's family members, who reside in South Dakota, took to social media, urging local residents to be vigilant and report any information. Despite attempts to contact him, Brings Plenty has not responded to his family's calls.
Brings Plenty's sudden disappearance is uncharacteristic, as he missed an appointment with his agent for a TV show, prompting concerns from those close to him. Described as a Native American male, approximately 5-foot-10 and weighing around 150 pounds, Brings Plenty has long black hair and brown eyes.
The family has filed a missing person report with the Lawrence Police Department, who suspect Brings Plenty of involvement in a Sunday incident at an apartment in Lawrence. Authorities have identified him as the suspect and have probable cause for his arrest. However, they have not released further details about the incident at this time.
Lawrence Police are urging anyone with information about Cole Brings Plenty's whereabouts to contact them at 785-832-7509 or the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 785-296-4017. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-843-8477.
In efforts to locate Brings Plenty, the Kansas City Indian Center is collaborating with Haskell Indian Nations University by disseminating information. Executive Director Gaylene Crouser, who has been in communication with Brings Plenty's father, emphasized the importance of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) movement.
The MMIP movement aims to raise awareness of the disproportionate rates at which Indigenous people, particularly Indigenous women, go missing or are murdered. Crouser expressed concern over the lack of attention and resources given to these cases compared to their white counterparts.
The Kansas City Indian Center will be posting updates on their Facebook page, Heart of America Indian Center d/b/a Kansas City Indian Center, and their Instagram page, @kcindiancenter.
As the search continues for Cole Brings Plenty, authorities and his family remain hopeful for his safe return. The public's assistance is crucial in resolving this matter and ensuring justice is served.
