Minnesota residents are preparing for significant snowfall as two storms are set to converge over the next few days. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), if the current weather forecast models hold true, parts of Minnesota could receive over a foot of snow by Monday or Tuesday.

The first system is expected to bring plowable snow to much of the state on Thursday night into Friday morning. Snowfall is already occurring across the Dakotas and is expected to move into parts of Minnesota. The heaviest snowfall is projected between 11 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, with some lingering snowfall during Friday morning rush hours. Snowfall totals by Friday morning are anticipated to range from 2 to 5 inches, with the possibility of 6-inch totals in localized areas with heavier snow bands.

The second storm, which is predicted to be larger and slower than Thursday's clipper, is set to impact the region from Sunday through Tuesday. Forecast models indicate a potential transition from snow to rain around the Twin Cities on Monday, with heavier snowfall amounts to the north and west. If this pattern holds true, areas to the north and west of the Twin Cities could see snow accumulations exceeding a foot by Tuesday.

While it is still several days away, NOAA currently projects a significant chance of at least 6 inches of snowfall in a 24-hour period ending Sunday at 7 p.m., encompassing a wide area from the Dakotas into Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and to take necessary precautions for possible heavy snowfall. As the snow begins to fall, Minnesota will transform into a winter wonderland, and it is important for individuals to exercise caution while traveling and ensure preparedness for potential disruptions.

As the first storm approaches, residents can expect to wake up to a fresh blanket of snow. All eyes will then be on Sunday's storm as forecasters monitor the potential for even greater accumulations. It is important to note that weather forecasts can change, so monitoring updates from reliable sources will be crucial in preparing for the upcoming snowfall.
