Midjourney, a prominent AI image generator trusted by artists and designers, has announced the release of a new and improved version of its website. The latest update includes a revamped editor interface that integrates various existing features into a unified view, providing users with a seamless editing experience.

The enhanced web editor combines functionalities such as inpainting, outpaining/canvas extension, and more, all within a single user-friendly interface. Inpainting allows users to repaint specific parts of an image using AI-generated visuals based on text prompts. The outpaining/canvas extension feature stretches the boundaries of an image and fills the newly created space with AI-generated visuals.

To aid in precision while editing AI-generated images, Midjourney has introduced a virtual "brush"-like tool for inpainting. This tool replaces the previous square selector and lasso tools, allowing users greater control and accuracy when altering specific areas of an image.

The updated web editor is now available to all Midjourney users who have created a minimum of 10 images on the platform. Users can access the tool by visiting midjourney.com/imagine. Previously, these features were nested within disparate menus, but the new web editor aims to streamline the editing process and make it more user-friendly.

According to Midjourney CEO David Holz, the goal of the updated web editor is to enhance the editing experience for AI-generated images. Holz stated, "We think this makes editing your MJ images way more seamless than before and is a huge step forward." Early reactions from users have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the improved functionality and ease of use.

In addition to the web editor enhancements, Midjourney has introduced a feature that enhances communication between its web and Discord communities. Messages sent in specific Web Rooms are now mirrored in corresponding Discord channels, ensuring that users across both platforms can remain in sync. This integration includes prompt-craft, general-1, and a special superuser room for prolific users who have created over 1,000 images.

These updates come at a pivotal time for Midjourney, as the company faces a class-action lawsuit from a group of artists. The artists accuse the startup of copyright violations by allegedly training their AI on copyrighted images without permission. Last week, the judge denied Midjourney's bid to dismiss the case, and the lawsuit is now proceeding towards discovery.

Despite these legal challenges, Midjourney remains committed to enhancing its tools and community experiences. CEO David Holz expressed gratitude for the users' patience during the development process and encouraged them to explore the new capabilities provided by the editor. The company promises to continue innovating and introducing features to improve the creative process and foster a more connected community.

As Midjourney continues to evolve its platform, users can anticipate further updates aimed at enriching their creative endeavors and nurturing a stronger sense of community within the AI art sphere.
