In a recent announcement, Microsoft has revealed its decision to discontinue support for GPT Builder in Copilot Pro, starting from July 10, 2024. This means that all GPTs created by Microsoft and customers, along with the associated GPT data, will be removed by the company.
The move comes as Microsoft aims to prioritize core Copilot Pro experiences for its users. Copilot Pro, which was introduced in January as a paid subscription, offers priority access to the AI model and allows users to leverage its capabilities directly from Microsoft Office apps like Word and PowerPoint. Similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus subscription, Copilot Pro is priced at $20 per month.
Beginning on July 10, 2024, users will no longer be able to create GPTs using Copilot Pro. Consequently, Microsoft will delete all custom Copilot GPTs, including associated data, during the period from July 10 to July 14, 2024. After this date, users will no longer have access to their GPTs created in Copilot Pro.
Microsoft stated, "We are continuing to evaluate our strategy for consumer Copilot extensibility and are prioritizing core product experiences, while remaining committed to developer opportunities. To this end, we are shifting our focus on GPTs to Commercial and Enterprise scenarios and are stopping GPT efforts in consumer Copilot."
The company's decision to remove GPT Builder from Copilot Pro aligns with its earlier announcement in May, where Microsoft indicated a slowdown in Copilot AI advances to refine the tool's existing user experiences based on feedback. This move is likely part of Microsoft's plan to enhance the overall user experience of Copilot.
Copilot Pro, available for $20 at the Microsoft Store, offers improved performance, priority access during peak times, and additional image creator boosts, allowing users to create more AI-generated images in a single day. Moreover, Copilot Pro unlocks AI features specifically in Office applications, which are not available in the free version of Copilot.
As Microsoft focuses on enhancing its commercial and enterprise offerings, users of Copilot Pro will need to adapt to the changes and explore alternative options for their GPT requirements.
