Miami Hurricanes Secure 8-7 Victory over Clemson Tigers in ACC Tournament

In a thrilling ACC Tournament matchup at Truist Field, the Miami Hurricanes emerged victorious with an 8-7 win over the No. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers. With a powerful offensive display in the second inning, the Hurricanes showcased their resilience and determination.
The game started with Miami scoring a run in the first inning. However, Clemson quickly responded with Jarren Purify's two-out, two-run double in the top of the second inning, giving the Tigers a temporary lead. Not to be outdone, the Hurricanes fought back with Antonio Jimenez's impressive three-run homer and Daniel Cuvet's two-run double in the bottom of the second inning, taking a commanding lead.
Despite the Hurricanes' strong offensive performance, the Tigers managed to score a run in the third inning on a two-out passed ball. Miami continued to pile on the runs with a score in the sixth inning, followed by Alden Mathes' groundout that brought in another run in the seventh inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, Clemson showed its mettle with Jimmy Obertop and Cam Cannarella hitting run-scoring doubles, bringing them within one run of Miami's lead. However, the Hurricanes showcased their defensive prowess, recording two crucial outs with two runners in scoring position to maintain their advantage.
The decisive moment came in the bottom of the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Jake Kulikowski led off with a home run, doubling the Hurricanes' lead and solidifying their grip on the game. Not to be outdone, Clemson's Jacob Hinderleider began the ninth inning with a homer, his 13th of the year, injecting some late-game drama.
The win belonged to Miami's pitcher Gage Ziehl (5-3), who delivered an impressive performance, tossing 6.0 effective innings. He allowed six hits, three runs (two earned), and three walks while striking out four. Myles Caba recorded his fifth save of the year by pitching 2.0 innings to close out the game.
In the loss, Clemson's Ethan Darden (5-4) fought valiantly but ultimately suffered the defeat.
With this victory, the Miami Hurricanes advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinal round, having won Pool B. They improved to a 27-29 season record, leaving a memorable mark in the tournament. The No. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers, on the other hand, dropped to 40-14.
Looking ahead, the Tigers will conclude their ACC Tournament run by facing the No. 7 seed Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m. The game, which will be broadcasted on ACC Network, will see Clemson occupying the third-base dugout as the designated home team.
