In the recent NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets made strategic moves to bolster their teams for the upcoming season. Both teams selected players from various positions, aiming to strengthen their rosters.

The Dolphins focused on addressing their needs in the first few rounds of the draft. They secured edge rusher Chop Robinson from Penn State as their first-round pick, followed by offensive tackle Patrick Paul from Houston in the second round. While these picks are regarded as solid choices, it remains to be seen if they will have an immediate impact as expected.

Robinson's contribution is particularly crucial, given the uncertain availability of edge rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips for the season opener due to injuries. On the offensive line, Paul is projected to serve as the backup swing offensive tackle behind veterans Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson. However, he will face competition from experienced backup Kendall Lamm.

The Dolphins made a trade to acquire Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright in the fourth round, but they gave up a 2025 third-round pick in the process. This move raised eyebrows, as Wright is expected to be the third-choice running back behind Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane. The Dolphins invested more for Wright, who is considered a less promising prospect, than they did for Achane, selected in the previous year's third round.

In the later rounds, the Dolphins selected edge rusher Mohamed Kamara from Colorado State, who has a decent chance of making the final 53-man roster. They also added small and speedy wide receivers Malik Washington from Virginia (sixth round) and Tahj Washington from USC (seventh round), along with safety Patrick McMorris from California (sixth round).

Meanwhile, the Jets made an intriguing decision by selecting offensive tackle Olu Fashanu from Penn State as their No. 11 pick. This choice bypassed standout tight end Brock Bowers from Georgia, indicating a long-term strategy for the franchise rather than focusing solely on the 2024 season.

The Jets also made noteworthy selections such as wide receiver Malachi Corley from Western Kentucky in the third round. Corley has the potential to contribute immediately as a rookie. In the fifth round, they chose cornerback Qwan'Tez Stiggers, who did not play college football but was named the CFL Most Outstanding Rookie after a season with the Toronto Argonauts.

Additionally, the Jets added depth to their running back position with selections in the fourth and fifth rounds, and concluded the draft by choosing Alabama safety Jaylen Key as the final pick.

Overall, the Dolphins' draft primarily revolved around their top two selections, while the Jets made bold choices for their future. Both teams are eager to see the impact these new additions will have on their rosters as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
