In a week centered around Princess Diana's legacy, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry managed to grab the spotlight with the launch of the Duchess's new brand, leaving Prince William overshadowed. While Prince William made appearances at various events, including the Diana Legacy Awards ceremony, all eyes were on Markle's latest business venture.
On Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex unveiled an Instagram page and website for American Riviera Orchard. Although no formal announcement has been made regarding the specifics of the brand, documents filed in February with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reveal that the name was registered and trademark protection was sought for a range of products and services. These include textiles, cutlery, jams, marmalades, and other food spreads. Additionally, the filing mentioned the possibility of coffee and tea services, servingware, decanters, cookbooks, and retail space.
Markle's Instagram and website launch coincided with Prince William's attendance at the Diana Awards event, where he honored the latest group of Legacy Award recipients. The winners hailed from countries across the globe, including Australia, Bangladesh, the Cayman Islands, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Romania, the UAE, the U.K., and the U.S., according to Kensington Palace.
Before Prince Harry virtually joined the Legacy Awards event, he and Markle jointly announced the recipient of Archewell's $100,000 civil rights award. The announcement took place while Prince Charles was still speaking and presenting awards. Following Prince William's departure, Prince Harry appeared via video call, expressing his pride and gratitude for the work done by the Legacy Award winners.
Markle's return to Instagram comes after a long hiatus since leaving the platform in 2018 after her engagement to Prince Harry. In a recent appearance at SXSW, she spoke about the harassment and abuse she faced on social media, particularly during her pregnancies. Highlighting the need for a safer online environment, Markle expressed her concern over women perpetuating hate towards other women.
The launch of American Riviera Orchard and Markle's re-entry into the world of social media have undoubtedly shifted the focus away from Prince William's activities. As the public eagerly awaits more information about Markle and Prince Harry's new brand, the royal couple continues to make their presence felt even from afar.
