In a remarkable display of resourcefulness, the McLaren Formula 1 team has breathed new life into Lando Norris's car, which he claimed was "destroyed" after his collision with Max Verstappen during the Austrian Grand Prix. By incorporating repaired old floors, previously damaged in 2024, the team managed to restore the damaged sections of Norris's vehicle.

Following the incident at the Red Bull Ring, Norris was forced to retire due to the damage sustained in the collision. The British driver lamented that the wreckage had left his car in ruins, adding that the damaged parts were vital for the upcoming race at Silverstone.

The British Grand Prix marks the conclusion of F1's first triple-header of the season, a demanding period for teams. McLaren had already planned to stock up on older parts, ensuring they could be repaired and utilized if necessary during this busy stretch of races.

When questioned about his car's condition ahead of the British GP, Norris reassured Autosport that everything was fine for the immediate future. "Everything is ok. It's more just longer-term stuff it's impacted more than just this weekend," he stated. McLaren had managed to repair some spare floors that were damaged beforehand, enabling them to have backups ready for this weekend.

Norris praised the team's incredible efforts in preparing the car for the race, acknowledging the challenges posed by three consecutive races. He highlighted the ease with which floors can sustain damage, emphasizing the importance of having sufficient replacements available. Through their diligence, McLaren ensured they had enough in stock, including repaired versions, for the upcoming event at Silverstone.

Despite the successful repairs, Norris admitted that the consequences of sustaining damage could hinder McLaren's ability to invest further in their car under the cost cap regulations later in the season. Additional parts such as sidepods and brake ducts add up in terms of both finances and the championship battle. Nonetheless, Norris commended the team's diligent work in securing the car's readiness for the British Grand Prix.

The resourcefulness displayed by McLaren in resurrecting Norris's car with repaired old floors stands as a testament to their dedication and ingenuity. As the Autosport community eagerly awaits the British Grand Prix, McLaren's resilient efforts highlight their commitment to overcoming challenges on the demanding F1 circuit.
