Max Verstappen continued his impressive pole position streak, claiming his seventh consecutive pole position in the Miami Grand Prix. Despite failing to improve on his final flying lap, Verstappen's earlier time was enough to secure him the top spot on the grid.
During the first runs of Q3, Verstappen set a time of 1m 27.241s, putting himself into pole position. The Dutchman's time proved unbeatable, allowing him to maintain his position at the front of the grid. Charles Leclerc from Ferrari will join Verstappen on the front row, with his teammate Carlos Sainz not far behind in third.
The Red Bull team had a strong qualifying session, with Sergio Perez finishing in fourth place. The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secured fifth and sixth place respectively. The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton took seventh and eighth place, while Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda completed the top 10.
It was a challenging day for Aston Martin, as both Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso failed to progress beyond Q2. They will start the race from 11th and 15th positions respectively. Pierre Gasly from Alpine impressed by securing 12th place, ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon in 13th. Alex Albon from Williams finished 14th.
Valtteri Bottas, Logan Sargeant, and Daniel Ricciardo faced disappointment as they were eliminated in Q1. Bottas finished in 16th place, while Sargeant and Ricciardo ended up in 17th and 18th positions respectively. Ricciardo's qualifying struggles were compounded by a three-place grid penalty from the previous race, which will push him to the back of the field.
In Q2, Leclerc set the pace with a time of 1m 27.533s, while Hamilton managed to secure third place to avoid elimination. Stroll, Gasly, Ocon, Albon, and Alonso failed to make it through to the final qualifying session.
Hulkenberg led the pack at the start of Q3, but it was Verstappen who clinched provisional pole position during the initial runs. His time of 1m 27.241s remained unbeatable, despite failing to improve on his final flying lap. Leclerc finished in second place, followed by Sainz in third.
Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with his pole position, pointing out the challenges of the Miami circuit. The 2024 Miami Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 1600 local time on Sunday, promising an exciting race at the Miami International Autodrome.
