In a move that further adds to the NBA's eventful offseason, the Dallas Mavericks have traded guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons. The news was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hardaway, a long-time rotation player for the Mavericks, played a crucial role in their journey to the 2024 NBA Finals. Over the past five seasons in Dallas, he appeared in 333 games, starting in 166 of them and averaging 15.1 points per game. Hardaway's three-point shooting was particularly noteworthy, as he averaged 2.8 made threes per game on a 37.5 percent shooting clip.

However, during the 2024 postseason, Hardaway's performance dipped. He struggled to score more than 10 points in just two of the Mavericks' 22 playoff games. Additionally, an ankle sprain forced him to miss four games during the team's playoff run, and his role was diminished during the Finals.

Hardaway began his NBA career with the New York Knicks in 2013 but was eventually traded to the Atlanta Hawks after just two seasons. Now, he joins a Detroit team that had a disappointing record of 14-68 last year. The Pistons, however, possess promising young guards in Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Ron Holland II, who was the 5th overall pick in the recent NBA draft.

On the other side of the trade, the 24-year-old Quentin Grimes joins the Mavericks. Grimes has been a solid bench contributor throughout his three-year tenure in the NBA, splitting time between the Knicks and Pistons in the 2023-24 season. He averaged 7.0 points per game in 51 appearances.

Grimes, who was the Knicks' first-round pick in 2021, was traded to Detroit in February after his relationship with head coach Tom Thibodeau deteriorated. With his arrival in Dallas, Grimes is expected to fill the role left by Hardaway as a reliable high-minutes bench player behind the likes of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and P.J. Washington.

The trade also involved the Knicks, who received sharpshooters Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks in return for Grimes. As the Mavericks and Pistons await the official approval of the trade, this move promises to shake things up for all three teams involved.

Hardaway's arrival in Detroit should immediately bolster the Pistons' three-point shooting, as they had the fewest made triples per game and the 25th-best conversion rate from beyond the arc. With a mix of experienced and promising young players, the Pistons look to improve upon their previous disappointing season.

As the NBA offseason continues to surprise fans with unexpected moves, the trade of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Quentin Grimes reflects yet another intriguing transaction that will reshape the rosters of multiple teams.
