In light of recent events surrounding Jonathan Majors, Marvel Studios is said to be reevaluating their plans for the upcoming Avengers films. Sources indicate the studio is working on rewriting the storyline for Avengers 5, originally titled The Kang Dynasty, to potentially remove or minimize the Kang character. This decision comes after Majors' legal issues and subsequent firing following his conviction on December 18.
Marvel's move to distance itself from Kang follows the underperformance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where Majors portrayed the character. Originally introduced as a significant threat in the Loki series finale, Kang's role was expected to play a pivotal part in the now-untitled Avengers 5, scheduled for release in 2026, and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Variety had previously reported that Marvel was considering pivoting from Kang to Doctor Doom as a potential replacement. The decision to shift focus away from Kang, a character who was being built up as the next major villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, signals a change in direction for the studio. Doctor Doom, a long-standing villain in the Marvel Universe, could potentially make an appearance in the MCU in the near future.
As Marvel Studios works on revamping their plans for the next Avengers installments, fans are left speculating on the future direction of the franchise and the impact of these changes on the overarching storyline.
