Meta Platforms Inc.'s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has been on a strategic tour across Asia, with a recent stop in Seoul to discuss extended-reality technology with LG Electronics Inc. During a two-hour meeting with LG's Chief Executive Officer William Cho, the pair delved into business strategies for XR devices, emphasizing Meta's large language models and potential integration of AI into consumer devices.

Zuckerberg's visit to Seoul follows a ski trip with his family in Japan, where discussions around AI and the Quest headset were key topics, considering Meta's heightened investment in artificial intelligence and competition from companies like Apple Inc.'s Vision Pro. He is also anticipated to meet with Samsung Electronics Co., a long-time rival of LG, known for its collaborations with Meta on virtual reality.

The billionaire's visit to Asia marks Meta's determination to compete in AI, with significant focus on building a robust compute infrastructure. Despite Meta's dominance in the VR headset market, holding close to half the share, recent financial losses and competition from Apple's latest device pose challenges for the company's hardware ventures.

Zuckerberg's upcoming destination is India, where he is set to attend the pre-wedding celebrations of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's youngest son, commencing on March 1 and attracting an array of celebrities from business, technology, and entertainment sectors.

In terms of LG Electronics, the company has committed to investing around $7.6 billion in new technologies such as electric vehicles this year, doubling its capital expenditure amidst global economic uncertainties, as stated by Cho. LG, known for its wide range of consumer electronics, aims to stay at the forefront of innovation in various sectors, including washing machines, TVs, and smartphone displays.
