**Marco Sturm Named Head Coach of Boston Bruins**

In a significant leadership change, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on June 5 that Marco Sturm has been appointed as the 30th head coach of the team. Sturm's extensive coaching and playing experience made him the ideal candidate to guide the Bruins into a new era.

"We're proud to name Marco as the 30th Head Coach of the Boston Bruins and welcome him, Astrid, Mason, and Kaydie to Boston," said General Manager Don Sweeney. "Throughout this process, our goal was to identify a coach who could uphold our strong defensive foundation while helping us evolve offensively. We were also looking for a communicator and leader—someone who connects with players, develops young talent, and earns the respect of the room. Marco impressed us at every step with his preparation, clarity, and passion."

Sturm, 46, previously served as head coach of the AHL's Ontario Reign for the past three seasons, from 2022 to 2025. Under his leadership, the team compiled an impressive overall record of 119-80-11-6 and made three consecutive playoff appearances. Before his tenure with the Reign, he spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings from 2018 to 2022. In his final season with Los Angeles, the Kings secured their first Stanley Cup playoff berth since 2018 and posted a strong 99-point regular season record.

Before joining the Kings organization, Sturm held the position of head coach and general manager for the German Men's National Team from 2015 to 2018. His tenure was marked by a historic silver-medal finish at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, marking the first time Germany reached the gold-medal game and the first Olympic podium appearance since 1976. Additionally, he led Germany to a Deutschland Cup title in 2015 and back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at the IIHF Men's World Championship in 2016 and 2017, their best placements since 2011.

As a player, Sturm had a notable NHL career, appearing in 938 games with several teams, including Florida, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Jose, from 1997 to 2012. He recorded 242 goals and 245 assists, amassing 487 points and a plus-59 rating. Notably, he scored the game-winning overtime goal for the Bruins in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park. Selected by San Jose in the first round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Sturm leads all German players in most NHL games played and ranks second in career goals and points. He also represented Germany at three Olympic Games and multiple IIHF Men's World Championships.

Sturm expressed his excitement about the new role, stating, "I'm incredibly honored to be named head coach of the Boston Bruins. I want to thank Charlie Jacobs and the Jacobs family, Cam Neely, and Don Sweeney for trusting me with this opportunity. Boston has always held a special place in my heart, and I know how much this team means to the city and to our fans. I've felt that passion as a player, and I can't wait to be behind the bench and feel it again. I'm excited to get to work and do everything I can to help this team succeed."

With Marco Sturm at the helm, the Boston Bruins are set to embark on a promising new chapter, equipped with a coach whose experience and passion are well-aligned with the team's storied tradition and future aspirations.
