In a shocking incident at the Fulton Street subway station in lower Manhattan, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of pushing his girlfriend onto the subway tracks, causing both her feet to be severed by an incoming train. The suspect, Christian Valdez, had previously been imprisoned for a violent attack on a woman and her child during a home invasion in 2017.

Valdez, who resided in a women's homeless shelter in Brooklyn, was apprehended about 11 hours after the subway station attack. He has been charged with attempted murder and felony assault, according to the New York Police Department. The harrowing incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday during an argument between Valdez and his girlfriend.

According to the NYPD incident report, Valdez pushed the 29-year-old victim onto the tracks following a domestic dispute. The woman was struck by a southbound No. 3 train, resulting in the amputation of both of her feet. She was immediately rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition.

Upon arriving at the scene, NYPD officers found the victim conscious and responsive, with severe injuries to her legs. Sources within the police department confirmed that both of her feet had been amputated due to the impact from the train. Valdez was arrested later that day and is now awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

This shocking incident has brought attention to Valdez's previous criminal history. In 2017, he broke into an apartment in the Bronx, stabbing a woman and attempting to throw her 3-year-old daughter off a fire escape. Witnesses described how Valdez threatened to harm the child, prompting a brave neighbor to intervene and save her.

Valdez was subsequently convicted of second-degree attempted assault and sentenced to eight years in prison in 2020. He was released on parole from Sing Sing Correctional Facility on January 9, 2023. Despite his previous conviction, Valdez was able to commit the vicious attack on the subway tracks on Saturday.

As the investigation continues, questions are being raised about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in dealing with individuals like Valdez, who have a history of violent behavior. It remains to be seen whether he will retain legal representation for his upcoming arraignment.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the impact that domestic violence can have on people's lives. Authorities are urging anyone who may be experiencing abuse or witnessing it to seek help and report the incidents to the appropriate authorities.
