A man has been detained after crashing his vehicle into the security gate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office in Chamblee, Atlanta. The incident occurred just after noon on April 1, 2024.

According to the FBI, the man attempted to follow an authorized vehicle through the gate but was stopped. Two agents who were leaving the premises at the time noticed the incident and promptly detained the individual. They then called the DeKalb County police, who took the man into custody.

The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been confirmed by FBI Assistant Special Agent in charge Pete Ellis to have no association with the FBI facility. The wrecked vehicle could still be seen at the scene when SKYFOX 5 flew over the office around 2 p.m. Later, the car was towed away from the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, as per standard protocol, agents and bomb technicians thoroughly inspected the man's vehicle to ensure there was no threat present.

The FBI has stated that it is considering both state and federal charges against the individual involved but has not provided any information regarding a possible motive. The man has now been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation as confirmed by the FBI.
