Mike Maignan is seriously contemplating a switch to Chelsea, prompting AC Milan to explore viable replacement options for their current goalkeeper. La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted that after the buzz around Tijjani Reijnders’ departure, Maignan is now at the center of attention. Fans are uneasy, despite the excitement over Luka Modric, as they remain uncertain about the team under Massimiliano Allegri.

Maignan is currently being courted by Chelsea, though there is no urgent necessity for the Blues to acquire him by the onset of the Club World Cup given their existing roster of four goalkeepers. Despite this lack of urgency, Chelsea's interest in Maignan is far from new. The Milanese club faces a dilemma because Maignan seems inclined towards leaving rather than staying.

While Chelsea has yet to submit an official bid, one is anticipated as Maignan is a particular request from their coach Enzo Maresca. However, both clubs face a complicated negotiation process. Milan is adamant about not accepting any offers below €30 million, whereas Chelsea deems €15-20 million sufficient, banking on Maignan's contract expiry looming next year. The significant gap in valuation means London's club can afford to wait.

Both teams’ initial formal discussions are expected soon. Meanwhile, Milan is striving to persuade Maignan to remain, considering him and Rafael Leao as integral players for the team. Allegri has personally communicated with Maignan to outline his plans for the squad and intends to continue these discussions.

Despite these efforts, Milan must prepare for the possibility of Maignan's departure and are assessing alternatives. The most promising candidate is Mile Svilar, who recently had a failed contract renewal discussion with Roma. Svilar's contract expires in 2027, but the differences in financial terms presented a viable exit strategy for the Serbian goalkeeper.

Svilar is highly regarded by Allegri. Alternatively, there’s a budget-friendly option in Elia Caprile. Caprile, who spent the last months on loan from Napoli to Cagliari, may become available if Cagliari does not take up their purchase option.

AC Milan's proactive search for a replacement underscores the critical juncture at which the club currently stands as Maignan contemplates his future.
