According to ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks' star player Luka Dončić received a pain-killing injection prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics to address his thoracic contusion. The report states that Dončić is expected to receive another injection ahead of Game 3, which is scheduled to take place in Dallas on Wednesday.

Dončić told reporters on Tuesday that he is feeling good, but did not provide further details about his condition. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd revealed that Dončić sustained the chest bruise during Game 1 while either taking a charge or diving for a loose ball. Dončić has already been playing through ankle and knee injuries throughout the playoffs.

Despite the injury, Dončić initially appeared unaffected as he scored an impressive 23 points in the first quarter of Game 2. However, he slowed down in the second half and finished the game with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. He also struggled on defense, particularly in staying in front of the Boston ball-handlers, and committed eight turnovers. The Celtics went on to win the game 105-98, extending their series lead to 2-0 after sweeping the first two games in Boston.

In a separate injury update, the Celtics announced on Tuesday that Kristaps Porzingis has suffered a "torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon" in his left leg. The team characterized the injury as "rare" and stated that it is unrelated to a previous calf injury that sidelined Porzingis for 10 playoff games. Porzingis sustained the leg injury during Game 2.

Despite being visibly limited after the injury, Porzingis managed to contribute 12 points and four rebounds in limited second-half action. He expressed optimism about being able to play in Game 3, saying that he will do everything he can to be out on the court. His availability for the upcoming game will be determined based on his condition on Wednesday.

As the NBA Finals continue, the injuries to both Dončić and Porzingis will be closely monitored by the Mavericks and Celtics respectively. The Celtics currently hold a 2-0 series lead and will look to maintain their advantage, while the Mavericks hope that their star players can recover and make a significant impact in Game 3.
