LSU Coach Kim Mulkey Threatens to Sue Washington Post Over Potential "Hit Piece"

In a fiery opening statement, LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey has threatened to sue the Washington Post if they proceed to publish what she referred to as a "false story" about her and her coaching career. Mulkey's passionate remarks came in response to a Sports Illustrated report which stated that the newspaper is planning to release an article about her in the coming week.

Mulkey firmly asserted that she has enlisted the services of "the best defamation law firm in the country" to represent her in case the Washington Post goes ahead with what she labeled a "hit piece." She voiced her concerns about the newspaper's alleged use of "sleazy tactics and hatchet jobs." It's important to note that as of now, no such story has been published.

Expressing her frustration, Mulkey vowed not to allow the Washington Post to attack LSU, her team of talented young women, or herself without a fight. She emphasized that she is one of the few individuals in a position to hold journalists accountable and intends to do so.

While Mulkey is generally known to be cooperative with the media, she has also been vocal about her dissatisfaction with what she perceives as overly critical reporting. Throughout the season, she has called out news organizations on several occasions. For instance, during her weekly radio show on March 12, she described the media's coverage of a scuffle between LSU and South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference title game as "sexist." Additionally, when star player Angel Reese missed four games earlier in the season, Mulkey declined to provide further details but questioned why reporters did not simply report what she had said about it.

The anticipation surrounding the alleged Washington Post story has sparked interest and speculation within the basketball community. However, it remains to be seen whether the story will actually be published and what impact it may have on Mulkey, LSU, and the women's basketball program.

In the meantime, Mulkey is determined to protect her reputation and the image of LSU by taking a strong stance against what she perceives as potential unfair and damaging reporting.
