In an exciting announcement, the Los Angeles Lakers have unveiled JJ Redick as their new head coach, making him the 29th head coach in franchise history and the 25th of the Los Angeles era. The Lakers organization expressed their enthusiasm for the hiring, highlighting Redick's competitive nature and exceptional basketball IQ.

Rob Pelinka, Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, stated that following an extensive search process, they were proud to welcome Redick, his wife Chelsea, and their two sons to the Lakers family. Pelinka emphasized Redick's ability to analyze the game rigorously, which will unlock new opportunities for the team and contribute to long-term player development. Additionally, Redick's dedication to innovation and staying at the forefront of the ever-evolving league was emphasized, creating a promising future for Lakers basketball.

Redick, 40, brings with him a wealth of experience from his 15-year NBA playing career, which included stints with Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, LA Clippers, Milwaukee, and Orlando. With his remarkable shooting skills, Redick played a crucial role in 14 teams that advanced to the NBA Playoffs. Throughout his career, he averaged 12.8 points in 940 regular season games and boasts a career 41.5-percent shooting from beyond the arc, ranking 20th all-time in NBA history for made three-pointers.

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Redick expressed his humbleness in joining one of the most iconic and successful sports franchises in the world. He conveyed his dedication to serving the players, team, and organization, and his goal of delivering championship-caliber basketball for Lakers fans everywhere. Redick also emphasized his excitement to work with a veteran and innovative staff to develop individual players and maximize the team's potential.

Redick's retirement from playing in September 2021 led him to join ESPN as an analyst, where he was recently promoted to the network's lead broadcast team. Moreover, he co-hosts two popular podcasts, including "Mind the Game" alongside Laker LeBron James, as well as "The Old Man and the Three," through his co-founded production company, ThreeFourTwo Productions.

Before his professional career, Redick played four collegiate seasons at Duke University, where he earned two-time consensus first-team All-American honors and was named the 2006 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year. Redick's remarkable career at Duke led to the retirement of his No. 4 jersey in February 2007, and he is set to be inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.

As they embark on this new chapter, Redick and his wife, Chelsea, along with their two sons, Knox and Kai, are looking forward to immersing themselves in the vibrant Los Angeles community.
