Longtime Bruins Play-by-Play Broadcaster Jack Edwards Retires

After 19 years as the Boston Bruins Play-by-Play broadcaster on New England Sports Network (NESN), Jack Edwards has announced his retirement following the 2023-24 postseason games on NESN. Edwards, a New England native and University of New Hampshire graduate, has had a remarkable 45-year career in sports journalism and play-by-play.
During his tenure with NESN, Edwards described his role as his "dream job" and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be the voice of the Boston Bruins. As a lifelong fan of the team, he fondly reminisced about the joy he experienced over the last two decades.
Citing his desire to maintain the high standards he set for himself, Edwards made the decision to retire from broadcasting, expressing his gratefulness for the 19-year-long journey. He acknowledged that his family's love and support played a crucial role in his success and thanked every member of the Bruins and NESN for their loyalty and assistance in achieving his lifelong goal.
Jack Edwards first joined NESN as a play-by-play announcer in 2005, after working in various reporter and anchor positions in New Hampshire and Providence. His career also included stints as a sports anchor and reporter at both WCVB and WHDH in Boston, as well as reporting for ABC's Wide World of Sports and contributing to ESPN's SportsCenter.
Throughout his career, Edwards covered a wide range of sporting events, including the Olympics and the Little League World Series. His distinctive style and unique phrases, such as "tumbling muffin" and "high above the ice," made him a beloved figure among Bruins fans, captivating generations with his passion and knowledge of the team.
Charlie Jacobs, CEO and Alternate Governor of the Boston Bruins, congratulated Edwards on his incredible career, acknowledging the impact his voice had on Bruins fans for generations. Sean McGrail, President and CEO of NESN, also expressed his gratitude for Edwards' contributions over the past 19 years, praising his distinctive and colorful personality that made the NESN broadcast truly special.
Edwards will continue to call games for the remainder of the 2023-24 season through the NHL playoffs. The Boston Bruins and NESN will initiate a nationwide search to find the next play-by-play voice to join Color Commentator Andy Brickley for the 2024-25 season.
