Breaking: Las Vegas Raiders Sign Cody Whitehair to Bolster Offensive Line

In a significant move to strengthen their offensive line, the Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly signed veteran guard Cody Whitehair. According to Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network, this signing comes after a four-week hiatus of not adding any outside unrestricted free agents.

Whitehair, who has spent his entire career with the Chicago Bears since 2016, brings a wealth of experience to the Raiders' offensive front. Coincidentally, he has also worked with Las Vegas' new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, during their time together with the Bears over the past two seasons.

The terms of the agreement reveal that Whitehair has signed a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. The deal includes $1.4 million guaranteed and a maximum value of $3 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The Bears released Whitehair in February, opening up an opportunity for the Raiders to land the talented guard. With the Raiders actively seeking a starting right tackle, Whitehair has a good chance to secure the starting spot at guard in the 2024 season.

However, the Raiders' plans may still evolve depending on their draft strategy. If they acquire a promising rookie in the upcoming NFL draft, Whitehair could find himself competing for a spot during training camp.

The addition of Cody Whitehair marks the latest move by the Raiders in their offseason efforts to bolster their roster. Whitehair joins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, quarterback Gardner Minshew, tight end Harrison Bryant, and running back Alexander Mattison as notable outside free agents acquired by the team.

With the newly signed Cody Whitehair, the Las Vegas Raiders aim to fortify their offensive line and build a formidable unit that will support their offensive success in the upcoming season.
